Hudson County is its own vicinage of the Superior Court of New Jersey. The NJ Courts Family Division listing places the Hudson family offices at the Hudson County Administration Building, 595 Newark Avenue in Jersey City, and the vicinage directory also lists the William J. Brennan Jr. Courthouse at 583 Newark Avenue. The two buildings carry different street numbers on the same avenue, so read the address and any remote appearance instructions on the notice issued in your case before traveling. Which county a divorce is filed in is set by court rule, not by where either spouse lives today, so a recent move can change the answer. Confirm venue with a lawyer before filing.
How is a Hudson County estate opened for probate?
Probate for a Hudson County estate opens at the Hudson County Surrogate's Office at the Frank J. Guarini Justice Complex, 24 Central Avenue, Room 1-4000, Jersey City, NJ 07306. Probate of wills, estate administration (appointment of executors and administrators), and applications for letters of guardianship of a minor are filed with the County Surrogate's Office; an adult guardianship case is filed there and heard in Superior Court.
